Where does the data come from?
All flow data comes from the USGS Water Services API. The USGS operates over 8,000 stream gauges across the United States providing real-time data.
How often is data updated?
USGS instantaneous values are updated every 15 minutes to 4 hours depending on the site. Daily values are computed once per day. Our site caches data for 15-30 minutes.
What does cfs mean?
CFS stands for cubic feet per second — the standard unit for measuring river discharge in the United States. One cfs equals about 7.48 gallons per second.
What do the status badges mean?
HIGH = flow is more than 150% of the 30-day average. LOW = less than 50% of average. NORMAL = between 50-150% of average.
Can I use this for flood warnings?
Our site provides informational data only. For official flood warnings, consult the National Weather Service at weather.gov. Always follow local emergency guidance.
